Sad on Earth but Happy at Home

Let me explain. Before you start your day, you would typically scan through daily News. Most of the times, it is riddled with unhappy events across the globe. It is outright depressing. The News organizations probably thrive on this, i do not know. When i mention this to anyone, the instant response is "Well, there is so much good going. No one focuses on that". I too believe that is true, so i think we should find the local newspapers full of such trivial, happy, amazing stuff happening all around us.

At first glance

On a recent visit to the sunshine state, california, i got down at Sanfranscisco. Supposedly at the forefront of progressive thought, my perception of SFO is predominantly based on common cultural notions (South park et al :p). I enter the restroom and find paper towels and hand dryer and guess which one was most used. So much for all the buzz about being tree huggers.

And, on a nice morning just towards the end of spring break, my wife and i were visiting Pittsburgh. Just as we got onto I-99, i had a great urge to visit Tyrone. It is a really beautiful place and looks spectacular (in all seasons) as you drive past it. We stopped at Burger King and i paid my regular visit to the restroom. These guys also had both paper towels and dryer and i was pleasantly surprised to find that everyone was using the dryer. So much for being low key and still thoughtful. I was reminded of the age old truism that empty vessels make more noise. I used the dryer and was about to exit, when i noticed that the towel dispenser was infact empty.
