The Jack Hole Doosra

Hi!!

It feels really awkward even to type down these few words. My fingers flicking to the backspace way too often. The mouse hovering over the Cancel icon. I am in Cal these days. And, would be heading back to State college in three weeks time. Interspersed with weekend trips to San jose, cricket matches, movies, food fests and some other stuff.

Bike, Train and the Station
A couple of weekends ago, i was at Sanjose. The heat wave had just entered from the western door (only to romp across the states and now on the eastern exit). I stepped out of the nauseating train, on to the burning bay station.I was waiting for the dark lord to come pick me up. A muscular guy with an expression like kid strolled past me. He looked mentally challenged. "I like that smile, my man", he said shaking my hand. I concurred and turned around to look around. He picked up a left cigarette stub and flicked open his lighter. I briefly glanced and looked away. Seeing shiva pull up, i picked up my bag and was about to proceed. Suddenly, a searing pain on my right thumb and i shook it vigorously, instinctively.A small pin size mark on my thumb, sore and red in colour. The mankid(?) ran out into the station. And, i couldn't help but wonder....and Shiva said, "It's all a hoax". I wondered which part of the story is a hoax.

Near the bay, car becomes bekaar

A few hours later, after a heavy lunch at the usual stopover, we were making our way towards the Bayquarium (Bay Aquarium). Somewhere before hitting CA 1, we were winding down a busy downhill. And, i spot a red cop wagon streak across the highway intersection. Events cascaded and the car infront of the car ahead of us screeched to a halt. Shiva braked hard and we slammed into the vehicle infront of us. No bouncy airbags appeared to welcome us, though (probably hintative to the damage extent). A cheerful session with the cops, a thousand dollar poorer shiva were the by-products of my first accident.

Beaten in the flight, a lil before
A day later and three movies down, i was at a conference. With the aid of the professional culter (susu) and PP, i started back to the jet center a DVD player, a few t-shirts and other goodies richer. I took the train down to Santaclara from Sanfran. Luckily, i spotted a cab and asked that guy to take me to the jet center. Unsurprisingly, it was a desi. The name tag read Harbhajan Singh. After i got on, he said that the jet center was right opposite to the train station. I couldn't believe that i misread the doosra from this singh.

The home stretch involved a bike ride and a mile hike. I used almost all modes of transportation. If you could add a bay cruise to the list, you get the whole set. But, an incomplete set and trip has its own charm.
